The Netherlands has the busiest railway network in Europe. With 7,021 kilometers of track, our customers travel to almost every region in the Netherlands. NS train drivers ensure that this is done safely and on time. You collaborate with colleagues working as conductors and/or train service controllers who provide you with information.
The team at Dordrecht base consists of 77 train drivers and 3 team managers. Together, they form a friendly and close-knit group of colleagues.

You start the day with a cup of coffee at the base and chat with colleagues. You arrive on time at your train and communicate with the conductor. As a train driver, you are responsible for independently and safely operating your train. The beautiful landscapes of the Netherlands are your office. The NS train driver training is a program offered by NS. The train driver training is a full-time program lasting 52 weeks. At NS, full time is 36 hours per week. The training involves on-the-job learning, e-learning modules, work assignments, and simulations. Some lessons are conducted at the NS Training Center in Amersfoort, while others are digital. During the training, you work practically under the guidance of a workplace supervisor.
You are motivated to undertake an internal, full-time 52-week training program (36 hours per week).
You are willing to work according to a rotating shift schedule. This includes alternating day shifts, night shifts, weekend shifts, and shifts on holidays. It is essential that you are available for all shifts. On average, you work 2 out of 3 weekends.
You have good proficiency in the Dutch language.

Upon commencement of the training, you will immediately join NS and be paid according to the salary mentioned above.

NS also covers the full cost of your training.

You will receive the variable amount for working irregular hours even during your training, with an average of € 350 gross per month.

After the training, when you are fully deployed as a train driver, this amount can increase to an average of € 500 - € 900 gross per month depending on your work roster.

Part-time work (24 or 32 hours) is negotiable.
If you perform well, you will receive a permanent contract after one year.

For example, you can save for tax benefits on the purchase of a bicycle by utilizing leave and/or gross salary.
