The Universiteit van Amsterdam is seeking an exceptional academic to fill a prestigious Full Professor position in the field of sociology.

Job Description:

We are looking for a highly qualified candidate who can contribute to the development of our department's research and teaching programs. As a Full Professor, you will be responsible for leading educational initiatives, teaching courses at various levels, and conducting empirical sociological research.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and leading educational programs in sociology, tailored to meet societal demands and student needs;
  • Teaching and coordinating general, specialist, and methodological courses in undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs;
  • Carrying out core managerial tasks and contributing to the organization and cooperation within the program group and department;
  • Conducting and supervising empirical sociological research at a high academic level;
  • Acquiring external funding for research and collaborating with junior researchers;
  • Contributing to the development of sociology through publishing and participating in national and international research networks, educational initiatives, and policy endeavors;
  • Sought knowledge exchange and research cooperation with professionals in their research area and engaging with organizations and groups beyond academia;
  • Taking a leading role in the valorization of research activities;
  • Contributing to diversity and inclusion within the department, AISSR, and university through teaching, research, and management.

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field within the social sciences;
  • Strong general, empirical, and theoretical knowledge in sociology;
  • A proven record of high-quality teaching, coordination of education, and leadership in developing teaching programs;
  • An outstanding track record in empirical research that pertains to the priorities of the Programme Group Political Sociology;
  • Mastery of research methods and ability to teach methods at various levels of university teaching;
  • Commitment to the research agenda of the AISSR and Programme Group Political Sociology;
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire research funding from external sources;
  • Track record in administration and commitment to carrying out administrative tasks in a research university;
  • Commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion within the department and academia more generally;
  • Adequate knowledge of Dutch or willingness to learn within a reasonable period (five years);
  • The University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) or an equivalent international teaching qualification.

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary, ranging from €6 to €9 gross per month (in keeping with scale HL2), based on a 38-hour working week. Additional benefits include a generous holiday scheme, year-end bonus, and opportunities for study and professional development.
