The Faculty of Applied Sciences at TU Delft is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to contribute to the development of sustainable chemicals through electrochemical conversion. The successful candidate will work on the upscaling and intensification of electrochemical technologies for making sustainable chemicals, such as CO2 electrolysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop new types of polymer-based membranes using a hierarchical layered approach to address water transport, ion selectivity, and conductivity.
- Design and implement high-tech optical techniques to map the flow and concentration of reactants inside an operating electrochemical cell.
- Collaborate with another PhD candidate and 4 industrial partners to develop integrated membrane structures and study the impact of different ions and membrane chemistry on the selectivity and rate of the electrocatalysis reaction.
Requirements:
- MSc degree in chemical engineering, process technology, mechanical engineering, water technology, biotechnology, applied physics, or similar.
- Excellent track record in terms of grades and university background.
- Experience with performing experimental work and working with electrochemical systems.
- Pro-active and creative mindset.
- Fluent in English.
