Position Overview

A postdoctoral research opportunity is available focusing on Serial Crystallography (SX), a cutting-edge technique that enables the visualization of macromolecular interactions with light. This method employs a 'pump–probe' approach, where a brief UV-Visible laser pulse excites chromophores within the molecule, followed by an X-ray pulse that probes the resulting state at a specified delay post-excitation. The data obtained from these light-induced X-ray crystallographic experiments will be crucial for understanding reactions and excited-state dynamics. This role is centered on investigating light-responsive proteins that play vital roles in photosynthesis and photobiology, complemented by time-resolved spectroscopy techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a robust data processing pipeline for crystallographic datasets.
  • Engage actively in the group's time-resolved serial crystallography experiments.
  • Assist in the organization and execution of serial crystallography experiments.
  • Conduct SX experiments with a strong focus on data analysis.
  • Explore the photo-regulatory and molecular responses of various proteins to light exposure.
  • Integrate SX findings with time-resolved spectroscopy observations.

Candidate Profile

  • PhD in physics, physical chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in structural biology, serial crystallography, or large-scale data analysis.
  • Proficiency in CrystFEL or DIALS data processing software is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Phenix and CCP4 software packages.
  • Competence in Python or another programming language.
  • Interest in collaborating within a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Fluency in English is essential.

  • A competitive salary starting at €3,000 (gross per month, full-time), determined by your qualifications and experience.
