Data Center Operations and Maintenance Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Operations and Maintenance Manager to join our team at Google. As a critical member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers, including electrical and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain electrical and mechanical systems in our data centers, ensuring high availability and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective strategies to reduce operational costs and improve overall data center efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards, identifying and addressing potential issues promptly.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response efforts, ensuring high facility availability and minimizing downtime.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet service level agreements (SLAs) on uptime, efficiency, and cost.

Requirements

  • 9 years of experience working as a Facilities/Operations Manager or Chief Engineer within a critical facility, with 5 years of experience in people management.
  • Experience in electrical or mechanical roles, with knowledge of Electrical Distribution Systems and mechanical systems in data center environments.
  • Ability to communicate in English fluently to work with local councils/communities on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, and holidays on shift-based schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience planning and executing installation, commissioning, and equipment startup, following industry best practices and protocols.
  • Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
  • Understanding of the operations and maintenance of electrical, control systems, and mechanical systems in a data center environment.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems in data center environments and controls/monitoring systems.
