We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific. This role will focus on developing innovative instrumentation solutions from theoretical phases to bench testing and early customer adoption.
About the Role- Design, develop, and test complex instrumentation systems including charged particle beams, high voltage, high vacuum, precision motion, and data acquisition.
- Conduct research projects supporting sample preparation for cryo electron microscopy, analyzing, evaluating, and reporting on new technologies.
- Collaborate with colleagues and customers to drive innovation in creating new markets and applications.
- PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or related scientific field, and 2+ years of industrial experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in complex instrumentation development, preferably with systems involving charged particle beams, high voltage, high vacuum, precision motion, and data acquisition.
- Able to function in a lab-based research environment, troubleshoot equipment, and implement solutions.
- Proficient in data analysis using Python, C++, C#, or similar programming languages, and hand-eye coordination to handle small delicate objects.
- Familiarity with areas such as electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, microfluidics, optical detection, cryogenic equipment, surface chemistry, protein purification, and statistical engineering tools.
- Strong sense of ownership, communication skills to diverse audiences, and eagerness to learn.
