About the internship position

During your internship you will focus on developing and improving our Computer Vision models or related topics in the AI team. You will be a full member of the AI team, join all meetings and the decision making processes. We determine which approaches to take to train our model in a joint effort and then distribute tasks across our team.

You will have a supervisor to guide your development during your time at Orbisk. This will be a senior member of the team.

Possible internship topics

The list below shows some potential topics for an internship that we find interesting, but other topics are also possible as long as they enable new business opportunities, or solve a challenge that we are currently facing.

Using deep learning to enrich the pictures with contextual information such as food volume or distance. This will allow our solution to work with less sensors. Or experiment with a new data sensor that brings our models to the next level
Few-shot classifier for more granular output for specific customers or cuisines. This will allow us to provide better insights into the customer-specific waste. Computation image processing to improve the quality of the image that is taken by the device.

Orbisk is a scale-up on a mission. We strive to enable the world to save food, by means of progressive technology. World wide, one third of all produced food, goes to waste. In the Dutch hospitality sector alone, this adds up to 150 million kilos per year. We think this is unsustainable and avoidable We help restaurants, hotels and caterers to reduce their waste by at least 50%. We do this with the help of a smart camera, equipped with AI technology and image recognition software, that is connected to a scale. Food waste is automatically registered and all the collected data is shown in an online dashboard. With these insights a chef or restaurant manager can easily take specific actions to prevent waste. Less food waste means less costs; the solution is good for our world, and the hospitality establishment itself.
What we need you to bring

Getting a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence or comparable study.

Enrolled in a Dutch University.

Study, work or hobby experience in Deep learning, Machine learning or Reinforcement learning.

Familiar with Python in combination with PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Optional, but nice to have: experience with OpenMMLab

Working from home is possible, but candidates must be based in the Netherlands: Orbisk is located in Utrecht. We are not able to arrange a temporary working visa for students that currently live outside of Europe. Internship of at least the equivalent of 4 months full-time, and up to a length of 12 months.

Work with state-of-the-art models for image classification and instance segmentation. We currently work with an Mask2Former using OpenMMLab.
