Scientific Machine Learning Engineer (Postdoc)

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at ToxGenSolutions, a leading molecular diagnostics company. You will develop efficient and robust machine learning models for transcriptomics, specifically focusing on microRNAs for disease diagnostic prediction.

Job Description

As a Scientific Machine Learning Engineer, you will be part of an innovative research project integrating advanced machine learning techniques with transcriptomics data to create novel diagnostic prediction models. Your primary goal will be to develop scalable and reliable models to classify diseases into high-risk or low-risk categories based on microRNA profiles.

In this role, you will:

Develop state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms for transcriptomics data. Work on high-performance computer simulations. Construct pipelines for model personalization using microRNA data. Develop APIs to integrate various software codes. Ensure compliance with data standards and best practices. Participate in meetings, write scientific articles, and present your findings at conferences. Engage in teaching and supervision activities for interns in the Department of Computational Engineering and Applied Mathematics (CEAM).

Requirements

Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Systems Biology, or a related field. Demonstrable experience with scientific machine learning and numerical analysis. Familiarity with transcriptomics, particularly microRNA data, and diagnostic prediction models. Proficiency in R and Python for data analysis and model development. Experience with Microsoft Azure for cloud computing and data management. Strong research-oriented attitude and excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate scientific ideas effectively and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency in spoken and written English (minimum C1 level).

Conditions of Employment

This postdoctoral position offers a six-month contract, with the potential for extension based on performance. It includes access to lab research facilities, flexible working hours, and opportunities for professional development. The starting date is September 9th 2024, with a gross salary range of €4,059 - €4,709. We offer 25 holidays, holiday allowance, and other benefits. You will be part of a small interdisciplinary and international team (around 10 employees).
