The Position

The Project Management team is one of the Competence & Technology departments of TEM solutions, the Research and Development organization for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). This group is committed to lead the development of innovative technology-, module- and integration projects that enable us to deliver world class TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers.

With the ongoing developments in physics and industry the requirements for performance of these TEM microscopes are continuously growing. In our TEM Solutions department we are striving to convert the most promising technological concepts into real products - with the purpose to enable our customers to make the world cleaner, healthier and safer

As Senior Staff Project Manager you are part of an enthusiastic & hard-working multi-disciplinary Global TEM solutions team, and you are responsible to deliver successful projects and highly performing teams. You are capable to manage all dependencies between projects and/or programs and to build bridges to secure the delivery of multiple successful projects. The subject areas involved are mechanical, electrical, software, thermal, mechatronics, service, operations, sourcing etc. which may reside inside or outside our group or at suppliers. Based on the type of project this can be across geographically dispersed locations including Europe and US based Engineering teams.

In your role, you serve as expert and mentor to identify and promote Practical Process Improvements with high impact potential. You work with product, program, or process managers to prioritize, assess, and refine product development or process improvements.

You can easily and effectively communicate business merit and risks of solutions to key stakeholders via written and verbal communication to inform and persuade strategic action. Fostering a culture of clear, concise, effective communication, ensuring teams to actively listen to others and are understood is in your nature.

Apart from being a leader in project management, you practice mentorship towards growing leaders within the career track. You can lead and coach a department on processes and ways of working to increase the overall effectiveness of the department and the company.

You will typically be responsible to run multiple projects in parallel. The complex projects that can vary from relatively small to big taking up to 3,5 years. Additionally, Specials enable new technologies to support faster market introductions and customer deliveries. The decisions made by you and your teams will have direct business impact. Your challenge will be to build technological sophisticated products, meeting the needs of all your customers, combining short term goals with long term needs. You will report directly to the Sr Manager of Project Management and operationally to the corresponding Portfolio Leader.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Lead the programming and execution of all projects (Workflows, System Integration, Modules, Software) for multiple portfolios.
  • Implement meticulous review processes and set clear expectations around the key results of the projects.
  • Consistency to the Product Management Process and defined delivery schedules.
  • Effectively handle the requirements and collaborate with multi-functional teams including marketing, manufacturing, service, and finance to ensure breakthrough specifications to be delivered.
  • Contribute to the R&D budgeting process by providing financial/budgetary analysis.
  • Manage the program scope within the agreed budget, timeline and quality.
  • Apply knowledge to create or propose novel solutions that drives high customer value.
  • Demonstrate intimate knowledge of products, technologies, and customer use-cases and how they interrelate. Based on this knowledge, build roadmap identifying value streams.
  • Lead efforts to vet, evaluate, and champion to others new ideas for potential product concepts using intelligent risk-taking and innovation tools.
  • Leads others to refine own ideas and ideas of others and look for synergies.
  • Participate and promote intellectual property related idea generation and development.
  • Capable to present at (technology) conferences both internal and external. May have relationships with universities, outside technical communities, etc.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
  • Typically requires a BSc or University Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Typically requires 15+ years of work experience, of which you have worked in similar low volume capital equipment industry.
  • 10+ years proven experience in systems or subsystems project management, with ambition to continue to grow in a role as Sr. Manager Program Management
  • Proven track record to lead sophisticated, complex, multidisciplinary development projects through a defined product management process.
  • Ability to build consensus among key collaborators that may not be under your management control.
  • Strong communication ability is required due to the multi-functional nature of this role. Explaining complex, technical concepts to a variety of audiences energizes you.
  • Ability to lead and assign specific duties and build a constructive and coordinated working relationship.
