The EAL department is looking for a new colleague to join our team. In our diverse community, we aim to support students to reach their full potential and learn English while learning in English. In the language support lessons the EAL team is working with an integrated, cross-curricular language approach across speaking, listening, reading and writing to build up students’ academic fluency, linked to their home language foundation.

As an EAL teacher you need to be able to be proactive and adapt to a given context, taking students’ prior knowledge, current levels and backgrounds into account. In addition, strong communication skills and the ability to be diplomatic, professional and respectful in all areas of communication and to advocate sensitively to ensure the learning needs of EAL students are met are essential.

We are a forward thinking school and therefore we invest in potential future leaders as well as excellent teachers. We expect our teachers to be skilled in using digital tools for teaching (example: MacBook Air, Touch Screen boards and iPads). The chosen candidate will be a reflective practitioner and embrace opportunities for Continuous Professional Learning.Qualifications and ExperienceEssential:

A Bachelor or Master's degree in English as a Second Language (or related field)    An official teaching qualification such as a Bachelor or Master’s level degree in Education, Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate in Education etc. to teach EAL to all age groups and levels of Secondary Education. Please know that in order to work for us, you must be a fully qualified teacher in accordance with the standards required by the Dutch Education Authorities (DUO):The teaching qualification must be officially recognized either in your home country or the country in which you obtained your qualification, as this is the starting point for DUOFor applicants from the UK with a PGCE, you must also have a QTS and successfully completed your NQT induction yearQualified Teacher with at least 2 years secondary school EAL teaching experienceExperience in teaching English as an additional language to both beginners and more advanced students (Y7-Y13)Preferred:Experience in teaching IB MYP and DP/CP is advantageousExperience with team-teaching and in-class supportApplicants who have the right to work in The Netherlands, independent of employment statusWe offer

As with all teacher appointments in The Netherlands, this is a temporary appointment for one year, with a view to a permanent contract if all the conditions are met. The position is based on the Dutch Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) for Secondary Education.

Other benefits include the 8% holiday allowance, a year-end bonus of 8.33%, a contribution towards travel expenses and the ABP pension scheme.

In addition staff are given a number of options for tax benefits regarding trade union dues, the costs of sports (fitness) membership fees, the purchase of a bicycle (for commuting purposes) and a travel allowance (cafeteria scheme). Rijnlands staff also receive discounts on various insurance policies.
