Your Function

The Department of Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is looking for an Assistant Professor of Media Psychology. The ideal candidate should specialize in the psychology of media technology users, specifically within the research theme of 'The Human Factor in New Technologies'. Those with expertise in Immersive Technologies and AI-powered applications are highly encouraged to apply.

The assistant professor will join the Media Psychology group within the Communication Science department of the Faculty of Social Sciences. We promote diversity and welcome applications from female and minority candidates to enhance the variety in our team.

Your Duties

The assistant professor will:

  • conduct cutting-edge empirical research in media psychology
  • actively seek external research funding
  • develop, manage, and teach courses at bachelor and master levels in communication science
  • participate in management tasks and committees as needed
  • supervise Ph.D. students

Your Profile

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Communication Science or a related field
  • Demonstrate strong research abilities through a robust publication record
  • Possess extensive knowledge of quantitative and computational research methodologies
  • Show teaching skills, ideally with a Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs (BKO) or equivalent experience, along with positive teaching evaluations
  • Be proficient in Dutch and English, capable of teaching in both languages at a high level (C1) or willing to achieve this within two years
  • Have experience in applying for external research funding

What We Offer

We provide a dynamic role within a socially conscious organization. The full-time position offers a competitive gross monthly salary ranging from €4, (scale 11) to €5, (scale 11), depending on your qualifications and background. The role aligns with the university's job ranking system and is available for at least 0.8 FTE. This Assistant Professor (UD2) position presents a clear path to a permanent role after 18 months with transparent career growth opportunities. Initially, the role balances teaching and research at a 50/50 ratio, shifting to 65% teaching, 5% administration, and 30% research after the first two years (based on acquired grants).
