Description
Controversy ratings are an important tool used by investors and corporations to enhance their investment process and corporate ESG performance. This role focuses on the analysis of the involvement of companies in controversies across all industry sectors. The role primarily involves the generation of ratings that reflect how controversies negatively affect a company's stakeholders and increase their business risks, and how companies align with international norms of corporate behavior and best industry practices. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the development of research guidance for addressing emerging social and environmental issues and contributing to client meetings. Controversy analysts also contribute to oversight activities that focus on ensuring high-quality, robust, and consistent controversy ratings.
You will join a strategic team at the core of the research department, and you will engage in training and development programs that support your career development to become a top ESG analyst. The ideal candidate is an ESG generalist with cross-industry sector and capital markets knowledge (or a clear willingness to develop this), and with a high level of critical and analytical thinking.
Job Responsibilities
Research, analyze, and rate the involvement of companies in controversies across industry sectors Prepare and publish controversy reports for clients. Contribute to internal projects that require input from the controversies research team Play a key role in the generation and maintenance of analyst guidance for controversy research. Research and track ESG emerging social and environmental trends relevant to controversy research. Contribute to responding to client queries and support clients in integrating your research insights into their investment decision-making and ESG performance.Qualifications
Excellent research, critical and analytical skills Graduate degree in a related discipline (business, finance, environment, and/or social science); ESG certifications are considered an asset. At least 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience; ideally in responsible investing, civil society organizations focused on corporate behavior, or academia. Strong knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry, SRI/RI market, and ESG aspects. Strong knowledge of corporate reporting frameworks, regulatory initiatives in the area of corporate responsibility and sustainable finance, and sustainability industry initiatives. Communication skills (both in spoken and written formats), e.g., writing skills, ppt skills, client interaction skills. Effective planning and time-management skills; resourceful, flexible, driven, and self-motivated. Ability to work and adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
