We are excited to announce an opportunity to join the Laboratory of Drug Delivery, Nanomedicine & Advanced Therapeutics at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, LKS Faculty of Medicine. As a Research Officer in data science/bioinformatics/artificial intelligence in advanced therapies, you will collaborate with a diverse team including a Global STEM Professor, Postdoctoral Research Fellows, PhD students, and a technician at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, LKS Faculty of Medicine.

Our lab focuses on leveraging nanotechnology to gain insights into, diagnose, and treat diseases, with a specific emphasis on cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. We are a collaborative and multidisciplinary team that seeks to go beyond the lab to make a tangible impact on people's lives. Research projects cover areas such as extracellular vesicles & cell therapy, immunotherapy, nucleic acids therapeutics for brain cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. The appointee's bioinformatics expertise will play a crucial role in enhancing our understanding of the vast data generated across projects and fostering collaboration between projects, particularly in deciphering correlations between nanomedicines' structure and function, single cell sequencing transcriptomics, proteomics data, and more.

The Department is actively involved in drug discovery, medicine development, and application, aiming to improve the effectiveness and safety of conventional and advanced therapies through the integration of data science, mathematics, engineering, science, and technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to research projects focusing on extracellular vesicles & cell therapy, immunotherapy, nucleic acids therapeutics for brain cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Utilize bioinformatics/DS and AI expertise to enhance the understanding and quantification of high data contents such as transcriptomics, proteomics, nano-string, single cell sequencing, and immunohistochemical images.
  • Support pharmaceutical research initiatives to advance the development of more effective and safer conventional and advanced therapies by incorporating data science, bioinformatics, and image analysis tools.
  • Engage in clinical trials and laboratory projects.
  • Assist in project management, including the preparation of scientific publications and monitoring of grant reports.
  • Perform data analysis to extract meaningful insights.
  • Provide general administrative and operational assistance to ensure the smooth progress of research projects.
  • Initiate and contribute to grant writing and applications.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake any additional responsibilities as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the lab.

Requirements:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biostatistics, Computation, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years' experience in pre-clinical, laboratory, or clinical research applying data science or bioinformatics in pharmaceutical or health-related fields.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English, with a preference for proficiency in Chinese languages such as Cantonese and Putonghua.
  • Experience in grant management and teamwork within large groups is advantageous.
  • Display organizational skills, attentiveness, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

What We Offer

We are looking to fill the position on either a 1-year temporary basis or 2-year fixed-term basis, with potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability.

You will receive a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. For fixed-term appointments, there will be a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme equivalent to 15% of your basic salary. Housing benefits are available as appropriate. Additional perks include annual leave, medical coverage, and complimentary access to on-campus fitness centers and libraries.
