Postdoc position: Assessing the potential of low carbon methanol as a sustainable maritime fuel

7 dagen geleden

Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland TU Delft Voltijd
Job Description

This role is part of the European research initiative M2ARE. The project is dedicated to developing a new type of eco-friendly methanol called "Maritime Methanol," made from biogenic CO2 and renewable H2, to help the shipping industry worldwide cut down on CO2 emissions. The goal is to introduce a TRL7 European e-MeOH synthesis process by mid-2027, tailored to meet the high demand for maritime fuel, offering "Maritime Methanol" optimized for engines that achieve over 80% CO2 emission reduction compared to traditional fossil fuels. The project involves collaboration with 10 industrial and academic partners. We seek a dynamic, analytical, and proactive postdoc to conduct techno-economic and life cycle analyses to support the scaling up and business model creation within the project. Emphasis will be placed on developing learning curves for new methanol processes, as well as testing methodologies to address and communicate uncertainties related to prospective techno-economic and life cycle assessments. The role will involve close teamwork with project partners. You will be part of Professor Andrea Ramirez's research group focusing on industrial defossilization, which operates within the Process System Engineering section of the Chemical Engineering Department at TU Delft.

Requirements

We are seeking a researcher who:

  • Has a PhD in process system engineering, industrial ecology, chemical engineering, or similar fields
  • Is passionate about interdisciplinary research and contributing to sustainable fuel development
  • Possesses strong analytical abilities
  • Has practical experience with process modeling and/or life cycle assessment
  • Enjoys collaborating in diverse teams and is a team player

Excellent communication and writing skills in English are essential for this role.

Conditions of Employment
