I'm currently looking for a Structural Topside Designer for our client. Our client is a leader in floating technologies for the oil and gas industry and located in Rotterdam, Netherlands. In this position you will receive a 12 months contract with a possibility to extend.

Role Purpose

You master the role of Designer in your discipline. You have a deep technical knowledge in your area of expertise and a very good understanding of the product. You are able to develop design autonomously embedding multi-disciplinary constraints with minimal input.

You will produce top end design and ensure successful resolution of complex technical issues to meet project required time frame. You engage with peers in your Center and across Regional Centers to promote knowledge sharing and act as a consultant and mentor to less experienced designers within the discipline to ensure knowledge transfer, product memory, and application of best practices. The Principal Designer works in conjunction with Discipline Manager, Discipline Leads and engineering staff to seek continuous improvement in both quality and efficiency of work.

Role Contribution
In order to develop the design successfully within agreed scope and schedule YOU ARE TO:
  • Pro-actively utilize transverse (multidiscipline) Products knowledge and expertise, to develop innovative solutions in the early phases (concept, tendering, basic design);
  • Influence, develop and motivate multiple designers from different disciplines and also influence a wider range of stakeholders in the win phase as well as the execution phase to ensure the right implementation of the design;
  • Utilize technical knowledge and software tools to clearly depict the design that can be easily and correctly interpreted by others;
  • Pro-actively communicate with Engineers and/or Designers to ensure design intent is understood to avoid rework;
  • Plan and deliver assigned tasks accurately within the agreed time frame;
  • Organize documents and deliverables so they are easy to understand and locate;
  • Collaborate with Engineers and other Designers to share information, produce a high quality product, and resolve design conflicts;
  • Proactively provide Discipline Manager and/or Discipline Lead with updates regarding activity status, highlight concerns as they arise, and provide guidance to support Discipline Lead to stay within the allocated budget on the project;
  • Participate in the coordination of tool development and design standardization across Regional Centers;
  • Provide input at Group engineering level on development of tools and processes.
To ensure the quality of design deliverables YOU ARE TO:
  • Actively share experience/knowledge with peers and participate in applicable project design reviews;
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of technical knowledge to ensure technical solutions account for design factors such as constructability, installability, operability, vendor capability;
  • Challenge technical solutions by bringing your technical experience and knowledge and promote best approach; apply expertise in the practical application of new technology in industry;
  • Understand how assigned tasks fit within the project schedule and affect other stakeholders in meeting deadlines;
  • Demonstrate adaptability in implementing change while ensuring MOC procedures are used;
  • Promote continuous improvement within the Discipline by maintaining/sharing the latest industry developments; conduct research to solve unique and complex problems;
  • Comply with project scope, work instructions, specifications, codes, industry standards and regulations per project requirements;
  • Participate to PL management and Client facing meetings and be able to promote proposed solutions based on recognized skills in discipline;
  • Propose standardization development in order to have a more efficient engineering and lower associated cost.

*If Acting as Lead Designer: In order to ensure team resources are properly allocated to meet project needs YOU ARE TO:
  • Obtain agreement from Discipline Lead Engineer on appropriate resource allocation to ensure the project scope is completed per the project schedule;
  • Understand the technical competencies of design team members and assign work in accordance with their capabilities;
  • Manage Subcontractors and ensure relevant documents are reviewed timely and thoroughly;
  • Ensure each team member understands his/her role and responsibilities to deliver the design within the agreed budget, schedule, and quality standards;
  • Actively participate in all applicable project design reviews and follow through on design review action items;
  • Proactively interface with stakeholders to align expectations, prioritize design team activities, and resolve design conflicts;
  • Provide coaching and guidance as needed to team members; partner with Discipline Manager for mentoring staff as needed.
Requirements

You have more than 5-6 years of relevant working experience in the field of structural design.
Furthermore you have:
  • Deep technical knowledge and product understanding.
  • Strong management, collaboration and communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in design and project management.
  • Proficiency in design software tools.
  • Experience in Design of floating units in the Oil & Gas Industry.
