About the Role:

Zero Hash is a pioneering company focused on the storage of digital assets, settlement on and off-chain, and verifiable proof of assets. We are in search of a seasoned assistant general counsel to ensure our company complies with the ever-changing crypto regulatory landscape in the UK and EMEA. Your responsibilities will include addressing core regulatory compliance issues, especially concerning data privacy, for our global entities. From day to day, you will handle a variety of tasks ranging from regulatory compliance to preparing Zero Hash for the introduction of new regulatory frameworks, in addition to offering strategic guidance to our business.

Candidates must be currently bar-certified and based in the UK and/or the Netherlands.

Responsibilities:
  • Advise various stakeholders across business and technology functions on compliance matters related to laws and regulations in the UK and EU concerning crypto regulations and privacy.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with regulatory bodies, handle regulatory requests and inspections, and oversee regulatory obligations.
  • Ensure company policies align with relevant privacy laws and standards like GDPR and UK GDPR.
  • Act as the main point of contact for regulators and public authorities within the EU and UK on data privacy and protection matters.
  • Provide practical legal advice on a wide range of topics with short deadlines, including business and corporate development, investments, and new product initiatives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents such as contracts, statements, and agreements, and oversee external legal counsel.
  • Engage with external parties to advocate and shape a regulatory stance.
  • Handle general corporate governance tasks for regulated and non-regulated entities in the EU/UK and internationally.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across various departments including legal, finance, product, compliance, and more.
  • Perform other ad-hoc legal duties in alignment with strategic business plans.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of legal experience, preferably in-house at a high-growth fintech firm, with knowledge of financial services industry nuances.
  • Passion for crypto, blockchain technologies, DeFi, DAOs, and NFTs.
  • Law degree from a recognized UK or EU university with a valid license to practice in the UK or EU.
  • Background in private practice, in-house, or government/regulatory settings with exposure to financial regulatory, tech, media, and privacy matters.
  • Self-motivated team player capable of adapting to a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong awareness of legal issues in regulatory and corporate domains.

Preferred:

  • UK legal qualification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with current EU financial regulations like MiFID or FSMA.
  • Experience in a fast-paced technical environment.
  • Knowledge of UK or EU regulatory bodies such as the FCA or equivalents.
  • Proficiency with GDPR and associated regulatory entities is highly desirable.
  • Experience in Netherlands, Poland, or Lithuania is an advantage.
