Electrolyte Expert. You will play a pivotal role in our team of scientists and engineers in the development of our groundbreaking water and salt-based flow battery technology. As we work towards commercialization, you will work in our brand new office, workshop, and lab at Alphen a/d Rijn. As an Electrolyte Expert, you will work on optimizing a critical component of our acid-base flow battery system: the electrolyte. You will leverage your expertise in water-based redox electrochemistry to develop next-generation electrolytes that push the boundaries of energy and power density.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the research and development of novel electrolytes specifically designed for highperformance acidbase flow batteries.
  • Focus on optimizing electrolyte formulations to improve energy density, power density, and roundtrip efficiency of the battery.
  • Investigate the synergistic relationship between electrolyte properties and electrode (material) technology for optimal battery performance.
  • Analyze and identify suitable redox couples for the targeted acidic and basic environments within the battery.
  • Evaluate factors like redox potential, diffusion coefficient, and stability to ensure efficient energy conversion and long battery life.
  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques to characterize key electrolyte properties (e.g., conductivity, viscosity, pH stability, and redox activity).
  • Work closely with electrochemists, material scientists, and engineers to integrate your electrolyte expertise into the overall battery design and optimization.
  • Share your knowledge and findings through presentations, reports, and participation in technical discussions.
  • Actively follow advancements in waterbased redox electrochemistry, flow battery technology, and electrode materials relevant to acidbase flow batteries.
  • Seek opportunities to incorporate cuttingedge knowledge into your electrolyte development strategies.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical reports on electrolyte research, characterization results, and their impact on battery performance.
  • PhD. in Chemistry with a strong focus on electrochemistry and electrolyte solutions with a minimum of two years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in designing and characterizing electrolytes for electrochemical devices (e.g., batteries, fuel cells) is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with a datadriven approach.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fastpaced environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to achieving highquality results.
  • Proficient in English, spoken and written. Knowledge of Dutch language is considered is a plus.
  • Familiarity with acidbase flow battery technology is considered a plus.
