ABOUT ABBOTT VASCULAR NETHERLANDS (AVN)

Abbott Vascular Netherlands in Heerlen, The Netherlands, is one of the two Abbott Vascular Tier 1 distribution centers responsible for the worldwide distribution of Abbott's vascular products.

From our 10,000 m2 warehouse we ship an average of 1,700 deliveries per day (765,000 units per month) to hospitals, Abbott distributors and Abbott affiliates in Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America.

Every day, over 150 employees in our warehouse and in supporting departments work on processing customer orders, maintaining a high service level to ensure that our customers receive the right products on time.

Abbott Vascular Netherlands offers a complete and high standard Supply Chain solution, including an extensive range of value-add logistics activities such as labeling, relabeling and reworking of products to meet country specific needs.

WHAT WILL YOU FOCUS ON DURING YOUR INTERNSHIP?
Background

Our warehouse covers various range of processes.

Our products are received via the inbound process, focusing on timely receiving of the correct products and storing these in our warehouse.

Our outbound process is split in a process for the European market and process for the global (export) market. In our addendum labeling process, additional labels and manuals are added depending on the country specific requirements. Furthermore, our warehouse also includes returns, rework and inspection processes.

Problem Description

We are continuously working to improve our processes.

Based on your background and interest, we can together select the problem in one of our warehouse processes you will work on during your internship with the Abbott team.

Your focus will be to lead a process improvement on for example quality, costs, or productivity.

Objectives

We expect you to perform structured research for improvements, preferably via the DMAIC structure:

• Define the exact problem
• Measure the current state of the applicable warehouse process (process flow, performance, variables)
• Analyze the process, identify opportunities and determine the root causes for the problem based on evidence
• Improve the process or deliver a recommendation and implementation plan for the future state
• Control and sustain your improvements or at minimum advice how to control the proposed improvements

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a motivated student at the level of University and/or Applied Sciences (HBO or WO) to join our business for this assignment, including but not limited to the following field of studies:

• Industrial Engineering & Management (Technische Bedrijfskunde)
• Mechanical Engineering (Werktuigbouwkunde)
• Supply Chain
• Business Studies (Business Management)
