You are part of our Top team on the train that guides hundreds of passengers on Europe's busiest railway network every day. From early morning to late at night, people rely on you as you travel through beautiful landscapes: from forests in the Veluwe to vast green plains in the North of the Netherlands and through the bustling Randstad. The Netherlands has the busiest railway network in Europe. With 7,021 kilometers of track, our customers travel to almost every region in the Netherlands. NS train operators ensure that this is done safely and on time. Additionally:

• Ensure safety above all else and follow the correct procedures, even in emergencies.
• Work together with colleagues who work as conductors and/or train service managers to provide you with information.
• Continuously develop yourself; be curious about new technologies.

The employees of NS operation are the face of NS. Together with all your NS colleagues, you ensure that over 1 million people reach their destinations on a daily basis. The team at the Eindhoven base consists of 250 train operators and 8 team managers. Together, they form a friendly and close-knit group of colleagues. You start the day with a cup of coffee at the depot, chatting with colleagues. You have your duty card at hand and know the planned route. You arrive on time at your train and communicate with the conductor. You perform safety checks, such as brakes, lighting, and communication systems. Ready to depart? Let's go. As a train operator, you are responsible for independently and safely operating your train. Additionally, you also address minor technical issues when necessary. You ensure everyone reaches their destination on time. The beautiful landscapes of the Netherlands are your office. You enjoy them. During your break, you meet some colleagues again. Eating together, time for a joke or a good conversation. And then, a new journey until the end of your workday. The NS train operator training is an in-house program offered by NS. The training to become a train operator is a full-time program lasting 52 weeks. At NS, full-time is 36 hours per week. The training includes on-the-job learning, e-learning modules, workplace assignments, and simulations. Some lessons are conducted at the NS training center in Amersfoort, while others are digital. During the training, you gain practical experience under the guidance of a workplace supervisor.

• You are motivated to undergo an internal, full-time 52-week training program (36 hours per week).
• You are open to potentially working part-time (24 or 32 hours) after completing the training period.
• You are willing to work according to a continuous schedule, which may include day shifts, night shifts, weekend shifts, and holiday shifts on rotation. It is essential that you are available for all shifts. On average, you work 2 out of 3 weekends.
• Your hearing and vision meet safety requirements; wearing glasses up to a maximum of +5 or -8 is acceptable, and you can distinguish colors well. Additionally, your height ranges between 160 cm and 196 cm.
• You can reach your base within 45-60 minutes using your own transportation (car, bicycle, scooter).
• You have good proficiency in the Dutch language.
• You communicate clearly, can act promptly, and remain calm in stressful situations.
• You are adept at working independently.
• You have an affinity for technology because when issues arise, you collaborate with colleagues to diagnose the problem.
• You are 18 years of age or older.

• A starting salary of up to €2,959.92 gross per month based on 36 hours.
• Ultimately, you can progress in your career to a maximum salary of €4,070.88 gross per month.
• In addition to your salary, you receive up to €900 gross per month in irregularity allowance, 8% holiday pay, and a 3% year-end bonus.
• Upon commencement of the training, you will be employed by NS immediately and receive payment in accordance with the aforementioned salary. NS also covers the full cost of your training.
• The variable amount for working irregular hours is provided even during your training, averaging €350 gross per month. After completing the training and working as a full-fledged train operator, this amount can increase to an average of €500 - €900 gross per month, depending on your work schedule.
• For a 36-hour workweek, you work 40 hours one week and 32 hours the next. This means you have one day off scheduled every 2 weeks.
• Part-time work (24 or 32 hours) is negotiable.
• You are entitled to a minimum of 24 vacation days per year, potentially increasing to a maximum of 32 days depending on your age.
• NS compensates for working irregular hours not only in financial terms but also in time, resulting in an average of 5 extra days off annually.
• Upon satisfactory performance, you will receive a permanent contract after one year.
• You have the option to exchange 3 national holidays for 3 non-national holidays.
• In addition to the 8% holiday pay and 3% year-end bonus, you have access to an excellent pension scheme.
• Free second-class travel.
• First-class travel at a slightly higher personal contribution and discounts for family members.
• Discounts on European train travel once you have been with NS for 1 year.
• Through the NS Choice Plan, you can tailor your employment benefits to align with your individual preferences. For example, you can save for tax benefits on the purchase of a bicycle by using leave and/or gross salary.
• NS also offers arrangements for 'senior employees,' including:
  • A four-day workweek starting at age 55.
  • Three to four days of work starting at age 61.
  • A three-day workweek starting at age 63.
