You can be part of our team Propulsion and energy systems are at the core of almost every project, determining for a large part the performance of a ship at sea and ensuring that energy stored on board is used as efficiently and effectively as possible.
In addition, supporting research is needed to provide tools and methods to further optimized the design of these systems.Various graduate research or internship projects are available related to this topic, all projects are supported by subject matter experts within the company.
Analysis of new propulsion control strategies and their applications.Developing analysis methods related to ship efficiency, emissions, and performance.

As an intern or graduate student at Damen Naval you may encounter multiple aspects of propulsion and energy systems engineering in various phases of ship design.
Depending on the assignment, you are expected to select or develop the analysis methods and engineering tools needed to achieve your research goals.
You will be responsible from day one for the planning and execution of your research project.You are expected to deliver a detailed in-depth analysis of your research problem and meanwhile be able to communicate the results and conclusions to other departments.
The perfect candidate for an internship or graduation project related to propulsion and energy systems has the following characteristics:Top class student Master student Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Aerospace engineering, Process Engineering or Naval Architecture. Passionate about ships and shipbuilding.
Familiar with propulsion and/or energy systems (e.g. combustion engines, transmissions, heat exchangers, HVAC), preferably on board of ships.
Python, MATLAB, VBA).
Taking responsibility for your own planning and project management.
Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal.
Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
In addition, a temporary accommodation or compensation for housing could be provided, if required.Flexible working hours can be discussed and proper mentoring at BSc or MSc level will be available throughout the project.
