**:Functieomschrijving

We are looking for a health economist to join our team.

Would you like to contribute to infectious disease control policy making in the Netherlands and launch your career as a health economist in an environment with a high social impact, we are looking for you.

What are you going to do
Great news for you, we already have a seasoned health economist in our team. You will get the opportunity to work together with him, learn and accelerate your knowledge, and career. Together your goal will be to answer questions from the Dutch health council.

And in addition, you will independently work on assignments with colleagues from our team of modelling professionals and experts on policy-relevant research at the intersection of health economics and infectious disease control.

The health economists are for example involved in assessing the costs and effects of COVID-19 vaccination, they advise policy makers about decisions to change vaccination programmes against pneumococcal infections, they assess the cost-effectiveness of preventive medicine against HIV infections.

Your role is to help assess the burden of disease of infectious diseases in the Netherlands, to measure the possible gain in the quality of life of new vaccines, and to weigh these against the costs of vaccination.

Your responsibilities include:
- conceptualizing and developing cost-effectiveness models for preventive interventions against infectious diseases such as vaccination and/or screening;
- handling and analyzing large data sets;
- conducting literature reviews;
- contributing to annual reports on the disease burden of infectious diseases in the Netherlands;
- communicating study results to relevant stakeholders e.g. the Health Council of the Netherlands;
- publishing the results in scientific journals.

Unique to this position

Working closely together with colleagues from different expertise, such as epidemiologists, mathematical modelers, medical specialists, virologists, immunologists.
Contributing to decision making on infectious disease control in the Netherlands.
Discussing research in a national and international context.
**Functie-eisen

Who are you

We are looking for someone who has completed a master study in health economics, medical or pharmaceutical sciences, mathematics or in a related field.

Experience with relevant health economic analysis, e.g. as a PhD, is not a prerequisite, but could be an advantage.

We do have to be strict about one thing. You have a professional level of verbal and written communication in English.

As you will also encounter written Dutch documents, such as policies, we require a Dutch reading level of at least C1.

Please make sure this is apparent in your resume.

The team
You will be part of the department for Infectious Disease Modelling. This team, is an open, dynamic, international and stimulating group comprising modellers and health economists who are socially engaged.

The group works closely with RIVM colleagues whose expertise spans diverse disciplines, including epidemiologists, statisticians, modellers, microbiologists, virologists, and immunologists.

Your direct team of colleague consists at the moment of 14 people of whom one is an experienced health economist.

We are an international group as we have a healthy mix of Dutch and non-Dutch team members.

We tend to work half of the time from home and the other half from the office in combination with flexible working hours.

Everybody finds a balance that works for them and we encourage and respect that.

We are one of the leading research groups in its field, and maintain numerous collaborative links with external academic and non-academic institutions.

We take our responsibilities very seriously as we are a leading research institute.

In the team we connect with each other via our passion for the work that we do and the social impact we can make.

The first interviews will take place on Monday 1st or Thuesday 2nd of July. The second round on Monday 8th or Tuesday 9th of July.
