Head, Scholarly Communications and Publishing

Take the lead in creating opportunities to share scientific research and knowledge. That's your challenge as Head of Scholarly Communications and Publishing, where you will be leading.

Job Description

The TU Delft Library discovers, shares, and creates knowledge. Our work in the library is not just about building a collection of books and magazines, it's also about externally disseminating the publications of our university. You and your team make this happen. You provide the scientific community with expert support and advice on the publication process. You assess the value of research. And you ensure that employees and students can make optimal use of the library collection. To inspire your team, you develop strategies and coach your colleagues within your team to promote their development. You create a strategic vision for the entire publication process and collection management, and in line with that, you develop policies and tactical measures to implement this guideline.

As part of your role, you oversee TU Delft OPEN Publishing (working closely with the Head of Publications) and engage with our faculties to encourage scholars to publish with us. Additionally, you ensure that your team provides high-quality advice on publication strategies and guidelines. Together, you work on the open access program. By conducting thorough research analyses, you identify patterns and trends in publications, providing faculties with valuable insights into the value and success of their research. And in collaboration with the collection manager, you ensure the development of our library collection.

Your diverse and international team consists of nine members, all motivated to advance scientific publication and knowledge sharing on a national and international level. Therefore, you and your team actively contribute to the TU Delft Open Science Programme, as well as relevant conferences and workshops. As part of the Research Services department, you also closely collaborate with other team leaders in the library (such as those for research data and research infrastructure) and stakeholders throughout the university. Requirements

  • You have extensive knowledge of scientific publication and communication, as well as the research process.
  • You have experience in leading teams, insight into group dynamics, and supporting the development of colleagues within your team.
  • With excellent communication skills, you can collaborate with various stakeholders and understand their situations, whether technical, research, or managerial.
  • You understand the organizational structures of institutions such as libraries and universities and the corresponding decision-making processes.
  • You are adept at managing budgets and preparing and monitoring the team's annual budget activities, especially regarding scientific collection management.
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch and English languages, both written and spoken.

Benefits

  • The position is permanent.
  • A position of 32-40 hours per week.
  • A salary based on scale 12 from the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, ranging from a minimum of €4,814 to a maximum of €6,181 gross per month based on a full-time workweek (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
