In this position as survey coordinator you are responsible for the day to day running of the Pompe Survey.

The Pompe Survey collects information on the effects of Pompe disease on patient's lives and how these change with treatment.

Pompe disease is a severe neuromuscular disorder in which the skeletal, respiratory and cardiac muscles deteriorate.

The Pompe survey has collected information on symptoms, quality of life and other patient reported outcomes since 2002 and is a collaboration between the Erasmus MC and in the International Pompe patient Associations (IPA).


Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Liaising with international patient contacts to plan and improve recruitment and survey uptake;
  • Ensuring informed consents are properly filed;
  • Working with an electronic data capture system to enroll new patients, send out the survey and make changes to the survey;
  • Managing and cleaning the data;
  • Preparing results tables, graphs and text for reports.
You will also help to roll-out the survey in new countries.

Each year you will send out the survey through the electronic data capture system (CASTOR). A limited amount of paper correspondence is also required. Maintaining the CASTOR system, and making changes to it when required is also part of the work. As is the migration of previously collected data in Access to CASTOR.

Once the survey has been closed for the respective year, you will clean the data, prepare them for annual reporting and help to write the annual report.

You will be working for the Center for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases and based at the department of Pediatrics. In our center, research staff work alongside nurses and clinicians. We treat patients, collect and analyze data for research, and develop innovative therapies in the lab.


You will be supervised in your work by senior scientist Michelle Kruijshaar and working closely with neurologist Nadine van der Beek and pediatricians Ans van der Ploeg and Hannerieke van den Hout.

In addition, you will be working closely with our international patient contacts abroad.

Your immediate colleagues are friendly and happy to help and chat. They often go for joint lunch breaks.

As the center is a collaboration of different clinical and research departments, there is also an opportunity to get to know people from many different backgrounds.

The Pompe Center at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam is the only expert center in the Netherlands for Pompe disease.

The Center has been involved in research on Pompe disease for 40 years, developed the only available treatment for this disease, and has been treating patients with this treatment for over 20 years.

Meanwhile, to improve the patient's future, the center is also working on developing new treatments for this disease.

Specific position requirements:

  • BSc with some work experience.
or

  • MSc in health sciences, epidemiology, public health, social sciences, or similar.
  • Demonstrable data management skills.
  • Proficiency with data capture and data analysis software, such as CASTOR, SPSS, and R, is a plus.
  • Proficiency in the English language is a must.
  • Proficiency in Dutch/German/French/Italian/Spanish is a plus.
  • Terms of employment
    Terms of employment:
  • A gross monthly salary between € 3.655;
- (scale 10.0) and €3.824;
- (scale 10.2), depending on your level of education and relevant experience, based on a full-time working week of 36 hours.

  • You will receive a contract for 1 year with the possibility of extension by 1 year.
