Role

As a scale-up, the team at Carbyon is experiencing quite a steep curve in terms of growth. Not that long ago we've hired our very first Lab Technician who already organically grew into a slightly different role (Selene, she started in December last year). However, referring to this steep curve, which is a result of multiple (future) projects we're about to expand the team with another Lab Technician (could be you).

Now you might wonder, Lab technician at Carbyon, what's in the name? Essentially, you'll be responsible for performing and analyzing experiments at our laboratories. While you'll be part of multiple projects in parallel, you'll mostly work on the project focused on functionalizing our sorbent (working together with our researchers Bas & Jeroen). As a result of this project, you'll work on synthesizing the crucial CO 2 sorbent using wet-chemistry techniques. Besides, you'll execute tests on the synthesized samples using dedicated equipment and ancillary techniques when needed. Additionally, thanks to your knowledge and experience, you're able to proactively think along by proposing and designing new experiments. Bottom line, we could conclude that you'll provide (routine) technical support to our researchers by performing a variety of tasks in our laboratories. In addition, you guarantee that laboratory activities are performed in a safe manner. Referring to the context as we've just shared, imaginably you should feel at home in the lab (you consider yourself a real lab-rat). Responsibilities
While we did our outmost best to give you a colorful context as given above, we'd also like to put your responsibilities in a few bullets. Simply to recap your responsibilities a bit more clearly. As you can see, we've divided this into three building blocks, including a fair estimate of time you'll spend on each of them (please know, as we're a scale-up, this can be pretty fluid). Performing experiments (50%)
  • Set up and perform experiments
  • Wet-Chemical synthesis
  • Properly documenting the experiments executed
  • Perform analytical procedures
  • Collect samples and other relevant data

Research support (25%)

  • Assist in the implementation of research projects
  • Setting up processes, sorts, measures and labels samples
  • Carry out protocols and care instructions

Data collection and analysis (25%)

  • Collect, interpret, describe, and document data to support research projects.
  • Maintain lab and logs
  • Compile data and properly report on observations and results

Ideally, you'll bring strong teamwork skills, has a high level of human-awareness and is able to apply self-management. Furthermore, you'll bring;

  • A Bachelor in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering
  • 0-2 years of industry experience
  • Solid knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, such as wet-chemistry and synthesis of solid materials (gained during either your studies or industry experience)
  • A mindset driven by flexibility while being procedural; you'll stick to preset procedures while you're also able to act flexibly on the spot (servicing our researchers, being your internal customers)
  • Fluency in English, both speaking and writing, as we work in an international environment.
  • The right energy when it comes to our purpose and you're ready to take a leap into our scale-up.
  • Is living within commuting distance from Eindhoven or willing to move there, because that's where our magic happens
