Linux Specialist for Workplace

Job Description

Are you an experienced workplace specialist with good knowledge of Linux? Do you enjoy working in a large organization? Then this position as a Linux workplace specialist is perfect for you.

Where will you be working?

You will be part of the Generic ICT Facilities (GIV) unit. GIV aims to develop and manage an automated, modern, and hybrid landscape for RIVM and other clients. The GIV unit consists of five departments in total, the other four departments being: Digital Work Environment Organization, Hosting, Basic Infra Network, and Basic Infra Platform.

The GIV departments stand out for their high level of involvement and expertise in their respective fields. In the coming years, these departments will experience various developments due to the implementation of Cloud technologies, the accompanying cultural change and knowledge building, and the execution of major LCM projects on our current Data Center setup. The Workplace domain is responsible for providing a physical and virtual workplace and offering secondary support on workplaces, office automation, and various applications and systems. The Workplace Service has 30 employees and fosters an informal culture with a focus on employees and their personal development.

Purpose of the role

The Workplace Service aims to provide stable, independent access to information and applications. We prioritize high customer satisfaction, high availability, and smooth service delivery. You will carry out your tasks in an enthusiastic team with a high level of autonomy.

Roles and responsibilities

Within the Linux Workplace Support team, you will be in charge of setting up and managing approximately 250 Linux workplaces for our current clients (RIVM, KNMI, SCP, CPB, PBL) and future clients. Together with your colleagues, you will actively work on creating a Linux workplace that will be offered from the Datacenter. Handling 2nd and 3rd line incidents and executing changes are also part of your duties.

Requirements

What you bring:

  • Demonstrable HBO-level of education and thinking.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Linux scripting (BASH, Python).
  • Knowledge of and experience with Linux Desktop.
  • Knowledge of and experience with virtualization techniques (Vsphere, Xendesktop).
  • Knowledge of: Software Ansible automation platform, Cobbler / Services Apache Mysql Docker, Security LDAP Kerberos Qmange.
  • Completed RHCSA or functioning at that level is a plus.
  • ITIL Foundation V3 certification or the willingness to obtain it.
  • Good knowledge of Dutch and English.

Employment Conditions

  • Salary Scale: 10
  • Monthly Salary: Min €3,045 - Max. €4,848 (gross)
  • Employment: Fixed-term contract with a view to permanent contract
  • Contract Duration: For a period of 12 months (pending a permanent contract)
  • Minimum hours per week: 32
  • Maximum hours per week: 36

Other Employment Conditions

Part-time employment with a minimum of 32 hours per week is possible. Full-time employment of 36 hours per week is preferred.

In addition to the salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (IKB). The IKB consists of money (16.37% of your annual gross salary) and time. With the IKB, you can make choices that suit you and customize part of your employment conditions. For instance, you can opt to have a portion of your monthly income paid out when you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave and vice versa, or allocate it to tax-friendly purposes.
