The position is  part time . The successful candidate will be able to dedicate 20 hours per week to the collaboration.

Proposed length : 6 months(extendable if needed). 

Remuneration:  Experts should be salaried by their employer or be a post-graduate student (financed by their educational entity or self-financed). 

The European Medicines Agency is a decentralized body of the European Union with all its offices and Headquarters based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Its core responsibility is the protection and promotion of public and animal health through the evaluation and supervision of medicines.

The Collaborating Expert Programme is addressed to scientists and professionals who can share their expertise in a particular area of European Medicines Agency’s activities or are interested in collaborative research projects related to EMA’s scientific work.

The aim is to provide a mechanism for EMA and external researchers to collaborate in identifying and tackling important research questions to support regulatory decision-making.

This will help ensure that regulatory science remains at the cutting edge so that EMA can deliver its fundamental mission of protecting human and animal health and facilitating the availability of medicines to patients.

Strategic area / objective

Strategic goal 3.3.2: foster collaborative evidence generation, improving the scientific quality of evaluations and ensuring generation of evidence useful to all actors in the lifecycle of medicines, including health technology assessment (HTA) and pricing and reimbursement authorities

Specific projects

Devising an improved approach to the organisation, display and findability of scientific guidelines and related content on EMA’s corporate website, to meet both user and business needs, including their topic, classification, status and legal effectiveness, both currently and historically
Developing and implementing comprehensive and useful taxonomies for the categorisation of scientific guidelines and related content on EMA’s corporate website, in line with user and business needs
Improving the EMA corporate website’s search functionality to facilitate access to scientific guidelines and related content
Ensuring appropriate visibility and accessibility of documents open for public consultation within specified dates on EMA’s corporate website
Contributing to the design, scoping, technical development, testing and deployment of new features on EMA’s corporate website concerning scientific guidelines and related content
Developing and implementing effective change management strategies to ensure awareness and buy-in among key internal and external stakeholders

Deliverables

Insights from research into user and business needs relating to scientific guidelines and related content
Wireframes, prototypes and web page templates for new features, including usability testing if appropriate, culminating in release to the live website
New and expanded taxonomy systems for categorisation of scientific guidelines and related content
Change management activities planned and executed

Essential requirements

Eligibility criteria:
• Be an EU or EEA national
• Meet the requirements stated in the profile description;
• Be a paid employee from European academia, research institutions, public sector or international organisations, or a post graduate student within such organisations. Proof of employment/student status and agreement in principle of employer/academic institution will be requested.;
• Have a thorough knowledge of English (at least level C1). Good knowledge of another official EU language (at least B2) is an asset, as per the Common European Framework for Languages.

University Degree(s)

Essential : A university degree in any subject
Desirable : A university degree or postgraduate qualification in the area of life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, regulatory affairs or a similar subject

Experience and additional skills

Essential :
Experience working in the area of clinical trials, medicine development, regulatory affairs or a related area
Good understanding of EMA’s scientific guidelines and related content, including their purpose, use and life-cycle
Familiarity with medicine-development processes and with the pharmaceutical or medical device industry
Desired :
Previous experience working with regulatory agencies, preferably in the pharmaceutical sector
Knowledge of European regulatory frameworks and legislation, ideally in the area of pharmaceuticals
Understanding of web-design or user experience (UX) principles
