Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated, independent and organized intern to join our Environment Ecology and Sustainability department for an internship starting preferably in the fall of 2024. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in conducting a prospective cradle to grave life cycle assessment (LCA) of large scale offshore solar. The student will work in close collaboration with team members but also with EU research partners, with whom we are involved in an EU-Horizon project with a joint LCA scope. The goal of the student project is to incorporate the various LCA research parts carried out by partners (on PV components, on floater components, on mooring components), into one LCA. This project is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in the renewable energy sector and contribute to the development of a novel sustainable energy technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Update and build on previous LCA research
- Assess how various (end-of-life) scenarios influence life cycle impacts.
- Report findings and recommendations that inform our approach to designing and deploying our technology to minimize life cycle impacts.

Preferred skills:

- Currently enrolled in a program such as Industrial Ecology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
- Good understanding of life cycle assessment methodologies and tools.
- Familiarity with LCA databases (e.g. Ecoinvent etc).
- Proficiency in relevant software (e.g. SimaPro, GaBi etc).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Passion for renewable energy and sustainability.
