About the job

Datamars, a leader in developing innovative IoT and production process management solutions, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer based in Ticino, Switzerland, or Amsterdam, Netherlands. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building advanced software systems. You will implement cutting-edge solutions based on AWS Cloud and modern architectural paradigms, leading complex projects and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in server-side application development and cloud service management. You should have a deep expertise in modern back-end programming languages, distributed architecture design, and the ability to create scalable, high-performance, maintainable, and observable systems. Leadership skills and the ability to mentor junior developers are essential. In this position, you will frequently interact with Front-End, DevOps, IoT, and QA teams, tackling challenging projects within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Architecture and Design:

  • Design and develop back-end services and APIs for Datamars' products and IoT platforms.
  • Architect distributed systems on AWS that are scalable, high-performing, maintainable, and observable.
  • Define and implement microservices-based architectures, ensuring best practices for scalability and maintainability.

2.Technical Leadership:

  • Coordinate with Front-End, DevOps, R&D, and Product Management teams to align technical and functional objectives.

3.Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps:

  • Design, implement, and manage AWS cloud infrastructures, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools to automate and manage cloud resources efficiently.
  • Optimize CI/CD processes to enhance deployment efficiency and software quality.

4.Performance Optimization and Observability:

  • Monitor and optimize the performance of back-end systems, addressing bottlenecks and scalability issues.
  • Implement advanced observability solutions using monitoring, logging, and tracing tools to ensure system reliability and performance.

5.Code Quality and Best Practices:

  • Ensure code quality through comprehensive code reviews, automated testing (unit and integration), and adherence to development standards.
  • Promote best practices in software development, including clean code principles and robust testing methodologies.

6.Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and propose innovative solutions to improve development processes and existing architectures.
  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and trends in IoT, cloud computing, and software development.

Required Skills:

  • Experience: 5–8 years of experience in back-end development, preferably with languages such as Java, Node.js, Python, Rust, or Go.
  • Distributed Architecture: expertise in designing distributed architectures on AWS, ensuring systems are scalable, high-performing, maintainable, and observable.
  • Cloud-Native Technologies: strong knowledge of cloud-native technologies and best practices for building and deploying applications in the cloud.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): proficiency in using IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, AWS CloudFormation) to automate and manage cloud infrastructure.
  • Low Latency and High-Performance Applications: proven experience in developing low latency and high-performance applications, optimizing for speed and efficiency.
  • Microservices and API Design: advanced experience with microservices architectures and implementing RESTful/GraphQL APIs.
  • Databases: proficiency in relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB).
  • Containerization and Orchestration: experience with Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or ECS/EKS.
  • CI/CD and Version Control: advanced skills in CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and version control systems (Git).
  • Software Quality: strong focus on software quality and reliability, with a solid approach to testing and bug resolution.
  • Leadership and Communication: excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset for working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Passion for Technology: enthusiasm for new technologies and IoT, with a desire to learn and explore cutting-edge solutions.
  • Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IoT Experience: specific experience with IoT services (e.g., MQTT protocol, sensor management, embedded devices).
  • Agile Methodologies: familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and project management tools.
  • Serverless and Edge Computing: knowledge of serverless architectures or edge computing solutions.
  • Observability Tools: practical experience with monitoring, logging, and tracing tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK Stack.
