Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland TU Delft Voltijd
Molecular Biology Research Technician As a Molecular Biology Research Technician in bottom-up construction of synthetic cells at TU Delft, you'll play a critical role in establishing our new semi-automated pipeline for chromosome and genome assembly.
Job description  To gain a fundamental understanding of what life is and how to build it from scratch, the Biotechnology department at TU Delft has joined the  EVOLF research consortium.
Comprised of 31 research groups across the Netherlands, the consortium is focused on constructing bottom-up synthetic cells.
Synthetic cells need synthetic genomes, and therefore chromosomes, as a genetic blueprint.
Constructing synthetic chromosomes for synthetic cells is a new and challenging endeavor.  At the Industrial Microbiology section of TU Delft, we will work on optimizing the semi-automated construction of synthetic chromosomes and on testing their expression in a cell-free system that will serve as a starting point for synthetic cells.
As a Molecular Biology Research Technician, you'll help us set up a mid-throughput pipeline for chromosome and strain construction.
This work will be performed in close collaboration with a Ph D candidate and a postdoctoral fellow.
Once the pipeline is established, you will be at the core of EVOLF by producing the DNA constructs necessary for our team and our EVOLF partners.  This is an ideal opportunity for an ambitious  research oriented technician who wants to join an international team and collaborate with leading biophysicists, biologists, modellers and ethicists within the dynamic EVOLF scientific community.
You'll engage in scientific meetings and workshops, with opportunities to acquire necessary skills and operate complex equipment through specialised training.
Job requirements  You are an enthusiastic research technician and a strong team player who thrives in a dynamic environment.
Creative, with a proactive mindset, you are always brimming with ideas.
In addition, you are efficiency-focused, quality-minded and results-oriented.
You also have: A Degree at HBO/University of Applied Sciences/Polytechnic or University level.
Theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in microbial genetics and molecular biology (cloning, transformation, Golden Gate assembly and PCR).
Experience with automation and high-throughput screening or strain construction is a plus.  Good oral and written communication skills in English.  TU Delft (Delft University of Technology)  Delft University of Technology is built on strong foundations.
As creators of the world-famous Dutch waterworks and pioneers in biotech, TU Delft is a top international university combining science, engineering and design.
It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation to address challenges in the areas of energy, climate, mobility, health and digital society.
