WHY SHOULD YOU APPLY?

This is an exciting new role, working directly with the Financial Controller to support their decision making and owning the financial processes that contribute to the financial management of the hotel. You will gain experience in the use of market-leading financial technologies, key stakeholder communications including customers and suppliers and regular reporting to meet listed company requirements.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The assistant financial controller will assist in ensuring the efficient and effective running of the finance function within the hotel. This will include an innovative management of controls and compliance to ensure that a high level of reporting standards is being maintained. They should consistently seek to provide business acumen to parties both within and outside the finance function to ensure that risk is mitigated, and opportunity taken. They should seek to partner with the Financial Controller and General Manager along with other non-finance-related disciplines to deliver on the overall objectives of the business.

The main focus areas for the AFC include:

Commercial Focus

  • Reviewing costs and implementing processes where savings can be made.
  • Work closely with other hotel departments to ensure the HODs understand departmental KPIs.
  • Review margins and highlight where improvements can be made.
  • Preparation and review of weekly revenue & payroll forecasts – review of actual v forecast
  • Prepare Weekly year end forecasts.
  • A prominent & leading involvement in the month-end process.
  • Champion weekly/daily meetings and interactions with HODs.

People Focus

  • Support and become a key advisor to both the Financial Controller and the General Manager.
  • Assist in writing and implementing training plans & courses for non-financial managers within the hotel, in conjunction with the FC to help them gain a better understanding of financial issues. Ensure they are approachable and build relationships with the other HODs and staff within the hotel.
  • They will need to recruit, train, develop and coach the appropriate resources for the finance function in the hotel and motivate them accordingly.

Controls and Compliance

  • Ensuring all financial controls and procedures across the hotel are robust, sustainable, maintained and updated.
  • Internal Audit Reports - Where weaknesses are discovered, examine these with the FC & agree corrective actions
  • Champion the use of technology and more effective and efficient ways of doing business

Month End

  • Prepare the month-end lead schedule and agree with FC.
  • Creditor Management.
  • Ensure all journals are processed and appropriately reviewed.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet control accounts including accruals and prepayments.
  • Debtor Management.
  • Electronic Balance Sheet Reconciliation workbook completed.
  • Ensure the monthly Management Accounts show a fair reflection of trade both current and future

Weekly tasks

  • Income Audit management to ensure accuracy, consistency and completeness.
  • Engage with Shared Service Centre - Examining outstanding transactions or other areas of concern across the portfolio
  • Payroll management
  • Debtors – regularly reviewing the Debtors Ledgers and PM Accounts to ensure tight controls on credit are being maintained and collection of debts are being collected on a timely basis
  • Oversee the implementation of new controls as and when required
  • Forecasting - Understand key trends, and variances assessing current and future business risk ensuring that alternative strategies are put in place.

Other

  • External Audit - Co-ordinate the Year End and Interim Audit processes including the review and sign-off of information being submitted to External Auditors
  • Budgeting – Assist in the preparation of the numbers with the FC & that they make sense and reflect the strategy of the property.
