About the position Last summer, the organization of the 2025 NATO Summit was awarded to the Netherlands. It marks the first time that the Netherlands hosts this summit. The project team working on the summit's organization is seeking a senior social media specialist.
You will oversee agencies for content production and also create content yourself when needed. Collaboration with NATO, colleagues from the project team, and social media experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other involved (government) organizations is crucial. The NATO Summit will be one of the largest international events ever held in the country, presenting an extraordinary opportunity for the Netherlands to strengthen its position internationally and within NATO. The summit is being organized by the Netherlands in close collaboration with NATO's international staff. To facilitate this, a project team has been established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: the NATO Summit Taskforce.
The social media specialist we are looking for will collaborate with various parties both domestically and internationally to develop and implement the international social media strategy. You will create content, ensure its placement, and monitor the results. When necessary, you will engage third parties for this coordination and provide direction. You will have an eye for content quality and project deadlines.
You are a true team player, consistently seeking alignment with the project team and the communication departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other involved (government) organizations. Excellent English proficiency. Proactive and creative. Full-time position for 36 hours/week
Temporary contract for 10 months

The NATO Summit Taskforce consists of an editorial, logistical, and a communication team, all of which closely collaborate. The editorial team falls under the Security Policy Directorate, Security and Defense Policy department, responsible for the substantive aspects of the summit. The logistical team is accountable for the organizational preparation and execution of the conference, including security measures.
The communication team manages the communication about the summit, both nationally and internationally. The diverse disciplines required for this - such as communication advice, web editing, social media, media support/spokespersonship - are encompassed within this team. The team will be gradually built up in the upcoming months. The NATO Summit Taskforce is led by a project director, each team has a project leader.
