We currently have a team of 70+ people and offices in Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Germany, and Hungary. Our team combines energy specialists, AI, developers, data scientists, commercial people, and top-tier consulting alums. We are expanding quickly and looking for a Digital Twin Engineer in the Netherlands to help us scale our SaaS platform across Europe.

What we do

We offer a SaaS solution to create digital twins of heating systems. Our platform, powered by AI and analytics, optimises heating systems from heat sources to customers. We are transforming these grids by reducing CO2 and optimising its operations regarding temperatures, pressures, source dispatch and other metrics. These AI solutions minimise energy usage, CO2 emissions and operating costs while maintaining the proper end-user service levels.

What you will do

Our tech team consists of three teams: the Back-End, Front-End and Digital Twin team.

We are looking for a digital twin engineer to join our Digital Twin team (currently consisting of software engineers, digital twin engineers and data analysts). We are a passionate team at the intersection of software development and engineering, aiming to maximize our sustainable impact through our SaaS platform.. As part of the Digital Twin team, you will be working on a layer of intelligence (a combination of physics, mathematics and machine learning) that simulates, analyses and optimizes heat networks. As a digital twin engineer you will be building generalized software that can be configured by the colleagues in the Customer Solutions & Operations team. . As a digital twin engineer you specifically focus on improving our models, control strategies, parameter estimation, and optimization strategies. These models could range from pipe flow calculations to heat source modelling, and from demand forecasting to time delayed heat transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding the hydraulical and thermodynamical behaviour of heating systems

  • Writing scalable and efficient Python code where performance is key

  • Using and extending our digital twin software in state-of-the-art projects

  • Research and development of new experimental digital twin features

  • Collaborating with software engineers and solution engineers

  • Managing your tasks, planning, and potentially a sub-component of our product

    Who you are

    • BSc/MSc in applied physics, mathematics, mechanical engineering, computer science or equivalent

    • Familiarity with Python software development and software engineering principles

    • Team player

    • High degree of ownership and strong intrinsic drive

    • Familiarity with Git

    • And nice to have (not required):

      • Knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and/or machine learning

      • Knowledge of simulation, control systems, parameter estimation, and/or optimization

      • Familiarity with GIS data and QGIS
