NjiaPay's approach is to act as an intelligent layer on top of the ever-evolving landscape of African payment processors, finding the best route for each payment, leading to higher success rates for merchants and a better payment experience for end users.

The Role

NjiaPay is looking for a Senior Engineer to drive the development of our payment platform and merchant-facing portal. From a technical perspective, we are looking for engineers with a broad skill set who can work on both back-end and front-end, as well as architecture, testing, infrastructure, and observability. Our current focus is someone with good experience in front-end frameworks like Vue and/or Data Sciense.

There is a platform in place, currently centered around Python and Vue.js running on Google Cloud. The platform is serving live traffic. You will be responsible for feature development, operations, and platform improvements together with a small team of developers. We are looking for a pragmatic engineer who is used to working in dynamic environments and wants to be part of a small team. You understand that the needs of an early-stage startup are different from a large organization and can adjust your approach to the situations at hand. You prioritize progress over perfection and appreciate a fast-paced environment where you are involved in multiple projects and need to make fast decisions.

It would be beneficial if the candidate has additional experience relevant to the company's purpose and phase. This could include experience with payment specifics like fraud or routing, experience in the African market, data ingestion or data science, conversion optimization, or experience in a startup.

This role comes with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. You must be able and willing to work in such an environment, since the management team will lean on you to make decisions.

We are looking for more than one engineer and aiming for a mix of skills to create the basis of a good team. This is a unique opportunity to join an early-stage startup and be one of the first members, working closely with the founders, influencing and contributing to the company's roadmap, and be an integral part of the team.

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience (required), of which 1+ in payments and/or fintech, SaaS (ideally)
  • You have designed, built, and shipped products end-to-end
  • Startup experience or similar team setup in larger organizations
  • Experience building technical platforms and owning complex projects

Hours, Availability, and Compensation

This is a full-time position with an expected 40-hour work week, with salary and equity.

Work location: Hybrid, with partial in-office presence at NjiaPay Amstelveen office.

Some travel to Africa to attend conferences and meetings with partners will be offered but is not required.

Only candidates based in the EU/Netherlands will be considered for this position; no relocation or Visa support will be provided.
