Reporting to: BCE Finance Manager – Reporting & Controlling

Working journey: Full time 40h/week

Type of contract: Fixed term contract – 6 months (maternity leave coverage)

Job Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Job Mission

You will be part of BCE Head office in Amsterdam, which oversees all the operating businesses within Continental Europe (more than €2.3bn in annual revenue in 17 countries).

Your key objectives will be to ensure that financial reporting in relation to these subsidiaries is technically correct and produced in an accurate and timely fashion in line with Bunzl requirements and corporate governance.

In addition, you will also be in charge of the Head Office Accounting Process and undertake regular ad hoc projects relating to existing subsidiaries and new acquisitions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform the accounting activities for the BCE Head Office including journal entries, invoice approval process, expense claims, etc.
    • Manage the production and review of the BCE monthly management accounts, forecasts and additional non-financial reporting as required (ensure accurate submissions from all subsidiaries, produce consolidated accounts and commentaries, submission of deliverables in a timely manner to Group and deal with questions received from Group)
    • Monitoring of key trends including sales, margin, operating costs, working capital and cash flow by business compared to prior year and budget and dealing with questions from the BCE Finance Director or Bunzl plc Head Office relating to performance
    • Manage the quarterly, half-year and year end additional reporting
    • Assist in the preparation and review of Budget and Strategic Plan financial data and in analysing and challenging the submissions from the subsidiaries
      • Visit each business at least once a year to review reporting processes and compliance with Bunzl minimum control requirements
      • Assist with integration of new acquisitions into the Bunzl reporting environment, including gap analysis and oversight of action plans with local finance staff
      • Carry out ad hoc projects (e.g. prepare presentations for senior management, margin analysis, cost benchmarking, analysis of supplier data etc.)

Required Experience/Skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Analytical mind with strong attention to detail
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Confidence to deal with senior employees in the businesses as well as tact and diplomacy
  • Cultural sensitivity given the diverse nature of the countries and businesses
  • Self-starter, able to work on their own as well as in conjunction with the BCE Finance Director and BCE Finance Manager and BCE Head of Financial Control
  • Prepared to travel around Continental Europe as required
  • Knowledge of Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) would be an advantage
  • Newly or part qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA)
