As a Senior Database Engineer (also known as a Performance Engineer or DBA), you'll diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues, ensuring our digital banking platform operates at peak efficiency for our global customers. /ph3What you'll do /h3pDatabase performance engineers are a cornerstone of Backbase technology. You'll provide invaluable guidance to our development teams (tribes and squads) in their approach to databases and data design, ensuring our microservices deliver optimum performance. /ppYou'll analyze and interpret large volumes of performance data to characterize application behavior while proactively scanning for potential problems. Once an issue or bottleneck is identified, you'll build simulations to test your findings, and upon confirmation, you'll clearly explain it to Technical Architects and guide them towards a solution. /pulliExplain complex findings to a variety of technical audiences. /liliTest Proof‑of‑Concept (PoC) products to ensure they achieve ambitious goals. /liliEnsure overall software quality, scalability, and performance. /liliWork closely with the cloud solutions team on their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and launch. /liliAct as a consultant to internal development teams and educate them on performance. /li /ulh3Who you are /h3pAs a Database Engineer at Backbase, your role expands beyond the day-to-day operations of engineering. If you're a curious go‑getter with a passion for working with people and challenging your own skill set, then this is for you. /ppTo really tackle this role, we believe you'll need: /pulliSolid experience with large (100TB+), highly available, and high‑transaction databases, with MySQL being a must‑have (Oracle or MSSQL is a plus). /liliExperience working with cloud databases, either AWS or Azure. /liliDeep knowledge of database fundamentals and architectures, alongside SQL code performance review and optimization. /liliFamiliarity with standard edition tools for performance measurement, analysis, and optimization. /liliExperience developing tools and methodology for isolating performance issues. /liliThe ability to coordinate, plan, and manage complex technical solutions. /liliExcellent communication skills, able to explain complex subjects to a wide audience with different expertise levels. /liliExperience with ML/LLM/AI concepts and their impact on database performance and data architecture, especially in a high‑transaction environment. /liliYou must be located within commuting distance to our Amsterdam office, as we work in a hybrid mode, at least twice per week from the office. /li /ulh3Our Perks /h3pLoud and busy sometimes but always friendly, helpful, and super fun.
