**About the project**:
In our group, we are focusing on tissue engineering approach for prevention and correction of **pelvic organ disorders (PDFs)**. Our research aims translation of fundamental research on regenerative medicine and material science to a solution for patients with PDFs and in particular **pelvic organ prolapse (POP)**. Our group under the supervision of **Prof. Dr. Jan Paul Roovers** and **Dr. Zeliha Guler** works closely with both internal and external national and international research groups.

**About the role**:
**Pelvic floor disorders (PFDs)**, which include pelvic organ prolapse, and urinary and fecal incontinence, affect millions of women globally and represent a major public health concern. The research will involve creating a birth-related trauma in the pelvic tissues in a preclinical animal model to investigate the effect of trauma at the tissue and cellular levels, and triggering a healing response following trauma, by using an injectable hydrogel that can be applied to multiple locations where the trauma occurs after birth.

During the project, you will be working at Amsterdam UMC, **Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology** and you will be closely collaborating with Midwifery Department of the University of Amsterdam and Radboud University, Department of Molecular Materials where the functional hydrogels are being developed.

During this project you can learn and implement tissue engineering and regenerative medicine approaches into gynecological problems.

**Profile**:

- Master's degree in biology, chemistry, medical biology, nanoscience, health science, or a related field;
- Experience or strong affinity with the preparation and (mechanical) analysis of soft biomaterials, including hydrogel;
- Experience in in vitro cell culture techniques and comfort working with in vivo models and in vivo samples;
- Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary team;
- Excellent communication, presentational and reporting skills both written and verbal, with fluency in English.
