**Introduction**:
The Flow Modeling Group at ASML creates high-quality analysis solutions to guide design decisions. We make use of the Mini Environment Network Calculator (MENC) to model rarefied gas flows in EUV scanners. It is an in-house 1D tool and we are integrating MENC models into Simcenter AMEsim, thereby creating a new rarefied library in AMEsim. Now, the library is fully operational and supports all ASML AMEsim users. Nevertheless, ASML has a vision to further develop the existing physics models and to introduce new physics in the present code which is now a copy from MENC. Therefore, the development of the AMEsim rarefied gas library now enters the next phase.

**Your Assignment**:
During the previous development phase, the rarefied library has been validated with MENC for relatively smaller models that have less than 50 nodes. To ensure AMEsim tool performs as expected for any vacuum system related problems, it is deemed important to investigate larger network models. These models are already available in MENC and some of them need to be converted into AMEsim by using the auto-conversion tool within the Rarefied gas library of AMEsim.

For this assignment, some of your tasks will include:

- Build an understanding of Rarefied gas dynamics and rarefied flow modeling in 1D;
- Familiarize yourself with AMEsim, MENC, HPC and some available rarefied models developed both in MENC and AMEsim;
- Investigate available semi-large, large and ultra large model MENC model conversions into AMEsim models, determine any bottlenecks during auto-conversion and simulation;
- Compare MENC and AMEsim results for the larger models;
- Develop the AMEsim rarefied gas library roadmap items;
- Prepare a report summarizing model descriptions, problem approach, relevant results, comparison with mainly the MENC counterparts and provide recommendations on way of working.

This is a bachelor or master internship, suitable for both an apprenticeship and a graduation project. The desired internship is at least 6 months, working 5 days a week (3 days on-site). The start date is as soon as possible.

**Your profile**:
To be a match for this internship, you:

- Are a master or bachelor student in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Have experience in network modeling for fluid flow system;
- Preferably have experience in AMEsim, EcoSim and/or MacroFlow or similar;
- Experience with using High Performance Cluster is a plus;
- Feel comfortable in approaching experts and arranging required support independently;
- Have strong analytical skills and a problem-solving mentality;
- Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

**Other requirements you need to meet**
- You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
- You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
- If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
