Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Lab Manager in the Therapeutics Development and Supply (TDS) API Proteins team based in Leiden, The Netherlands.

The TDS API Leiden team makes part of the global Discovery, Product Development and Supply organization. The department supports the development of our industry-leading pipeline and maintains scientific ownership of biotherapeutics drug substance product and processes.

You will be leading a team of expert and motivated J&J and contingent (ELL) associate scientists which ensures critical studies to our drug substance development efforts are carried out (set-up, logistics, operation). You will have responsibilities for all lab assets and laboratory and ancillary warehouse and equipment preparation areas.

Team and lab management activities will require ~70% of the time and the remaining 30% will be dedicated to leading your own scientific (technology) development projects and support the upstream and downstream development teams as the need arises. **Key Responsibilities**:

- Ensures operational excellence in the execution of laboratory studies, IPC testing and/or sample and intermediate shipments according to pre-agreed planning. Leads regular metrics review and drives follow-up actions.
- Works closely with department head and scientific lead counterparts to ensure end to end alignment, e.g. facilitates mid/long term planning reviews robust resource planning and budgeting processes.
- Supports the flexible resourcing model and collaborates with ELL site manager to get qualified staff in a timely manner, provide feedback on flex staff performance and support their on-boarding and offboarding.
- Ensures lab operations including equipment assembly and warehouse processes adhere to J&J GLP Innovative Medicine requirements and safety standards.
- Accountable for laboratory asset management which includes replacement, maintenance, and periodic review of associated SOPs and WIs and leadership of all BSO (business system owners).
- Supports troubleshooting and first line support for technical issues related with laboratory operations.
- Champions continuous improvement and innovation.
- Ensures execution of the D&T roadmap for the laboratory scope as defined by the global D&T TDS team.
- Initiates and drives tech dev initiatives aimed at deepening platform development and understanding as well testing practices standardization and/or technology scouting aligned with TDS objectives.
- Part of the extended TDS Leiden leadership team

**Education**:
A minimum of 8 or 5 years of proven experience with a Master’s or a PhD degree, respectively, is required.

**Experience and Skills**:
**Required**:

- Applies Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives (Connect, Shape and Grow).
- Demonstrated scientific ability in process development, process troubleshooting, process validation or technology transfer.
- Knowledge of biopharmaceutical manufacturing unit operations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to successfully interact and operate in a dynamic environment with resilience and insight.
- Must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and with cross-functional scientific teams.
- Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.

**Preferred**:

- Proficient in English. Good command of Dutch language is an advantage.
- Experience with implementation of lean manufacturing and process optimization methodologies.
- Green belt certification.
- Shown track report as team manager/supervisor of at least 2 direct reports.
- 100% on-site presence to support lab operations team and activities.
