Engineering Internship

_SILICON BV in Wateringen manufactures high temperature anchoring systems and specialised welding equipment. SILICON also runs rental, servicing and installation projects for these anchoring systems at customer locations. The installation projects are mostly in the petrochemical and cement industry and are carried out worldwide_.

At a customer’s location there could be multiple welding machines strategically placed to reach all weld locations. Therefore a single customer project can easily involve up to 200m of welding cable, consisting of a series of shorter cables (10m - 20m) connected together. These cables get extremely dirty (mud, soot, sometimes toxic)) and require extensive manual cleaning with special soap after the project is completed. Cleaning these heavy and long welding cables manually is physically demanding and time consuming.

**Assignment**
Design and build a machine that can automatically decoil, clean and coil welding cables of 10-20m. Topics that need to be researched (a.o.):

- Optimal method to decoil cables
- Optimal cleaning method for cleaning cables in an automated and efficient way
- Optimal method for collecting and disposing dirt from the cleaning process in an environmentally friendly way
- Optimal method to coil (dry) cables after cleaning
- Optimal design to combine the cleaning and (de)coiling processes into 1 machine
- Options to also use the machine for other accessory cables that are part of the equipment
- Cost efficient parts supply

**Team**

SILICON is a multicultural company with over 25 different nationalities working in Wateringen.

The Engineering team consists of 7 engineers with varying technical backgrounds. The graduate / intern will be supervised by a senior engineer. Throughout the project other SILICON engineers may be involved to support with specific topics related to their field.

For this assignment it is necessary that the student has a proficient level of English.

Pay: €400,00 - €500,00 per month
