Reverse Infeed Breaker Wind-up

**Introduction***:
From September 2024 or February we have an internship available for a student with a bachelor or master in Mechanical Engineering. In consultation with the department this can be a graduation study. Challenge of this internship is to Development of a concept for reverse infeed within the technical specifications and the cost price targets.

**Department**:
The product department R&D Extrusion, Cutters and Flexx is responsible for the development of flexible machines for breaker and body-ply materials for the tire building industry. Using extrusion technology is emerging in this industry. The development of this is an important part of the production process of breakers and body-plies and with the strip wrapping process of car tires.

This department is also responsible for the management and maintenance of the "standard" of our machines in our portfolio. We support other departments such as Sales and Production and we work together with different R&D departments on projects in cross-functional teams. Within R&D Extrusion, Cutters and Flexx we work with 25 professionals. The team consists of Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Process Engineers and a Technical Writer.

VMI R&D offers a enthusiastic and inspiring working environment. VMI will provide the required software and ICT requirements (laptop) to work on the problem. VMI R&D provides multiple extruders which can be used for testing. Together with a software / test engineer, test can be executed.

**What are you going to do?**:
For Breaker production the rubber material should be wind-up on a reel together with a têxtile liner. This liner is laying under the rubber material to avoid that the rubber tacked to each other. The way the material should be winded on the reel is customer depended. Sometimes it has to be winded mirror-wise. This has a huge impact on the lay-out and the needed one time engineering. There are ideas to change the infeed to the other side of the reel and to feed in the material on a reverse way.

Part of this internship:

- Make concept proposals (Morphological overview; Kesselring analysis; Reviews etc.)
- May be some simple tests are required to verify the concept
- Basic Engineering of chosen concept
