Located in the international heart of the Netherlands, the European School The Hague is unique. We offer complete Early Years, Primary and Secondary education leading to the European Baccalaureate. Our Primary and Secondary schools are located on two large campuses in the International Zone of The Hague. The two schools work together with a shared vision and mission as part of the Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation.
Starting from 1 November 2024, we have a job opening at our Secondary school for a:
**School Counselor - Secondary School**
**0.8 FTE**
**Post description**
- To provide high-quality counseling (individual and group to students experiencing a wide range of academic, social and emotional problems
- To provide support, guidance, and advice to parents, teachers, and the school
- Develop and implement prevention programs regarding mental health and bullying
- Prepare and give workshops for staff, students, and parents
- Contribute to the development of department protocols
- To observe confidentiality and to support the school’s endeavor to provide excellent teaching and learning for all students
- Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people
- Employ evidenced-based best practices and methods that are most appropriate for meeting the students’ support objectives
- Update and maintain records on all counselling student’s progress
- Attend whole staff meetings, serve on staff committees
**Requirements**:
- Relevant counselling qualification, minimum HBO level, or an equivalent international qualification (must be recognized in the Netherlands)
- Willingness to explore, identify, and implement evidenced-based methods and best practices to enhance student development
- Fluency in both spoken and written English (minimum of C1). A working knowledge of Dutch/French/German would be an advantage.
**Desirable**
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of the social-emotional development of children and young people in an international school setting
- Experience of working within multidisciplinary student support teams
- Experience in coaching and supporting teachers in meeting individual students’ needs
- Experience and/or qualification in evidence-based intervention methods (e.g., rock and water, denken+doen=durven, mindfulness)
- Experience in group interventions (social skills, fear of failure, group dynamics)
- Knowledge of or experience with Positive Behaviour Support
**Skills and Abilities**
- Possess effective communication skills and relate well with all students, teachers, and support staff
- Good organisational and administration skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and work effectively within a team
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload
- Ability to cope with emotional situations and remain calm under pressure
**We offer**
- An appointment based on the Dutch teachers' collective labour agreement for secondary education (CAO VO) on the relevant pay scale 10 with a minimum €3301 and maximum €5030 based on a full-time contract. The specific step in the scale depends on relevant background and experience
