**Research role overview**
As a Marine Contractor, we operate all over the world to transport, install and decommission offshore infrastructure. To support the operation of our vessels, we use onboard systems which discharge treated water. Discharge could negatively affect the marine environment. Within our Healthy Oceans team, we have the aim to minimize these negative effects.
Examples of some activities where we are making use of certain discharge systems:
- To produce clean drinking water and management of our discharge of grey and black water, filtration processes are in place.
- Biofouling is a common challenge during our sailing activities, as it can lead to the transfer of invasive species. To overcome this, we use of anti-biofouling techniques.
- Stable vessels are essential for our operations, realised by using our vessels’ ballasting system. These systems include ballast water treatment systems to reduce the risk of invasive species transfer.
You will join our Healthy Oceans multi-disciplinary team, with a focus on identifying strategies to improve the quality of discharges from the treatment systems onboard SSCV Thialf.
