Plants house various microbes, which together form the plant microbiome. Plant microbiomes include microbes that contribute to plant health, but sometimes also pathogens. At Rijk Zwaan, we strengthen crops against diseases through resistance breeding and the use of beneficial microbes. Precise detection of these microbes is crucial to our research and breeding program. For this, we perform in-house sequencing of plant microbiomes. As a metagenomics intern, you will collaborate in the development and improvement of our bioinformatics pipelines that are deployed to determine from our sequencing data which microbes colonize our plants. You will be engaged in:

- (further) Developing bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of plant microbiomes, and making these accessible to other researchers within Rijk Zwaan.
- Analyzing short/long read metagenomics and metatranscriptomics data.
