**Job description**:
The Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has the following vacancy
**PhD student “Bioinspired Composites: Manufacturing and Multi-scale Characterization”**
in the section Mechanics of Materials, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The PhD student position is available in the section _Mechanics of Materials_ and will be supervised by _Dr. Tommaso Magrini_ (Tommaso Magrini Google Scholar).

**The **_Mechanics of Materials_** (MoM) Section**

**Bioinspired Composites: Context and Aim of the Project**

In this project, you will study the effect of the reinforcing architecture on the mechanical performance bioinspired composites. A multi-scale experimental approach will be key to investigate the role of the microstructure on the failure mechanisms that affect the materials. Ceramic and polymer processing, combined with advanced materials characterization techniques, ranging from electron microscopy to micro-mechanical testing will be employed to succeed in this ambitious project.

**Job requirements**:
**Qualification of applicant**
- A background and strong interest in Mechanics of Materials and Materials Science is required.
- Experience in materials processing and micromechanics is of benefit.

- Full-time employment for four years, with an intermediate evaluation (go/no-go) after nine months. You will spend 10% of your employment on teaching tasks.
