Your role as a Data Insights and Communication intern:
As a Data Insights and Communication intern, you play a crucial role in supporting our analytics program. You are the key figure in translating data into valuable insights and effectively conveying these to our customers through strong internal and external stakeholder management.

Additionally, you will support the development of a communication strategy for our data analytics products and performance dialogues’ campaign. You will develop a roadmap and, together with your team and other stakeholders, translate it into concrete actions, projects and products with clear priorities.

You will develop analyses and presentations that connect the dots between what data shows and experts say. And you will work on making the performance of the Port of Rotterdam transparent for our community through our proprietary website and social media channels.

Department Information

Our commercial department is responsible for the customers of the Port of Rotterdam.

As a Data Insights and Communication intern, you will be part of the Customer Digital directory. This team consists of 24 enthusiastic colleagues from diverse nationalities and backgrounds. Our goal is to utilize digital tools to achieve the port's strategy and improve its performance. We use data and analytics to identify bottlenecks and work with customers and partners to find solutions. Although we generally do not build these solutions ourselves, we coordinate and oversee their development. We collaborate with an ecosystem of start-ups, scale-ups, suppliers, and knowledge institutes.

Since digitalization is a key strategic theme, the team reports directly to our CEO. You will work closely with colleagues from the commercial department, asset management, environmental management, strategy, marketing and communications, and our subsidiary Portbase (Port Community System). Together, we strengthen the port's competitive position and reduce emissions.

You will be part of a sub-team within Customer Digital that focuses on delivering data analytics and insights that help improve sustainability and efficiency of modalities and cargo transiting through the port and into the hinterland. The aim of the Data Insights team is to provide necessary data and facilitate performance dialogues with stakeholders to ultimately improve efficiency and resilience of the port.

What do we ask of you?
- Demonstrated affinity with analytics, communication and/or supply chain domains.
- You are well into your applied science or university studies (pre-thesis stage).
- You can commit to 3-5 days a week for 6-7 months.
- You are independent and proactive, and you possess excellent communication skills (at least English C1).
- You can build impactful presentation and translate data into information. You also strongly believe that data analysis can better support your arguments.
- Basic understanding or academic background in logistics and supply chain management is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge and experience using analytical tools such as Excel, Tableau or Power BI dashboards is an advantage.
