About TNO's Research Programs
TNO is at the forefront of addressing major technical challenges in the coming years. Our research focuses on structural safety, climate adaptation, infrastructure renovation, energy transition, material reuse, offshore constructions, and digitalization. We tackle complex social issues by combining expertise in independent research, driving technological innovations.
Your Role in Our Research
You will join one of our five departments in Delft, focusing on knowledge areas such as structural safety, infrastructure, and maritime structures. Each department consists of multiple teams with specific expertise, and you will be part of a team of approximately 15 people. Our laboratory, 'Bouwinnovatie', provides a space for experiments and measurements. Our specialists have diverse experiences and competences, and it's our ambition to play a leading role in social trends and developments.
Research Opportunities
- The integration of digitalization in the built environment, focusing on BIM, Digital Twins, and Linked Data.
- Fatigue life assessment of welded details or geometry transitions in bridges and offshore structures.
- The safe and responsible reuse of structural components or materials from disposed structures.
- A full probabilistic analysis of submerged floating tunnels or buildings subjected to wind loading.
- Materials research, including fracture mechanics, failure modeling, composites, and other materials in extreme conditions.
- Simulations, including impact, advanced FE models, and new modeling solutions.
- Integration of energy performance and environmental performance of buildings to improve sustainability and reduce emissions.
- Investigating the self-healing capacity of asphalt and other protection mechanisms.
What We Expect from You
We offer a graduation position to students with a master's program in STEM fields, such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, architecture, physics, or mathematics. We look for individuals with an investigative and critical attitude, a willingness to cooperate, and excellent communication skills in English and preferably Dutch.
