Position Overview
The increasing presence of robots in various industries raises important questions about their influence on employment dynamics. While engineers strive to create advanced robotic solutions for complex and hazardous tasks, there remains a significant gap in understanding how these technologies are assimilated into professional environments. This project, funded by NWO, aims to fill this void through comprehensive ethnographic investigations of service robots in real-world applications.
We are looking for a qualified candidate to undertake a two-year Postdoctoral research role. The commencement date is adaptable and will be arranged with the chosen applicant.
The successful candidate will engage in ethnographic research under the mentorship of Dr. Anastasia V. Sergeeva at the KIN Center for Digital Innovation, Vrije Universiteit. The KIN Center is dedicated to exploring the intersection of innovation and business value within organizational processes and technological advancements. The center fosters a collaborative atmosphere, bringing together researchers from diverse academic backgrounds to advance this interdisciplinary field. Partnerships with other academic institutions and industry stakeholders are integral to our mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute ethnographic studies focused on the development and application of robotics
- Conduct field research, analyze literature, draft scholarly articles, and present findings at academic conferences
- Participate in educational initiatives
- Collaborate with industry partners, facilitate workshops, and disseminate research findings
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- PhD in Business Administration, Management, Sociology, or a related discipline
- Expertise in qualitative research methodologies, particularly ethnography
- Proven track record of academic achievements through publications and conference engagements
- Commitment to high-quality qualitative research
- Ability to integrate creative and analytical approaches
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with industry
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Dutch is advantageous for engaging with Dutch-speaking stakeholders
