Position Overview
This role is a key part of the Netherlands Initiative for Energy-Efficient Computing. The NL-ECO program addresses the urgent need for significant advancements in the energy efficiency of information and communication technology (ICT). The increasing energy consumption in this sector poses a serious challenge, necessitating innovative solutions. The initiative, supported by the Dutch National Science Agenda (NWA), unites 33 academic, industrial, and societal organizations to tackle this pressing issue.
In 2020, our research group at Twente pioneered the concept of dopant network processing units (DNPUs), as detailed in Nature 577. These advanced silicon-based electronic devices are designed for integration into new architectures aimed at achieving highly efficient computing. We particularly envision their application in edge AI, where minimizing power consumption and latency is crucial. In this doctoral project, you will engage in the fabrication and evaluation of a next-generation of DNPUs, capable of operating at room temperature and suitable for various real-world static and dynamic tasks.
Your Qualifications
- Strong motivation and enthusiasm for energy-efficient computing.
- MSc degree in (applied) physics, electrical engineering, or a related field, with a keen interest in machine learning.
- Independent and innovative thinker with a creative approach.
- Quick thinker with excellent analytical and communication abilities.
- Team-oriented with a preference for working in an international environment.
- Proficient in Python and Pytorch.
- Fluency in English is required.
