Boskalis, a pioneer in sustainable offshore operations, seeks an MSc graduate to investigate the effectiveness of bubble curtains in mitigating underwater noise generated by pile driving. This challenging project aims to advance our understanding of environmental factors influencing bubble curtain performance and identify strategies for optimal implementation.

Background

The impact of offshore construction activities on marine life is a pressing concern. Pile driving generates significant underwater noise that can disrupt essential functions of marine organisms, causing long-term damage to ecosystems. To address this issue, Boskalis has developed innovative noise mitigation techniques, including bubble curtains.

Objective

This MSc assignment focuses on investigating the effects of current velocity and water depth on the efficiency of bubble curtains in reducing offshore piling noise. The study will leverage Boskalis' extensive experience in sustainable offshore projects and combine experimental and numerical approaches to gain valuable insights into the interaction between bubble curtains and environmental conditions.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive MSc graduate with a strong background in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, offshore engineering, or a related field. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experts in the field and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for complex infrastructural and marine projects.

Requirements
  • You are currently enrolled in a Dutch university and completing your master's degree in a relevant field.
  • A proactive approach to integrate within the team and company is essential.
  • A drive for curiosity and learning is required.
  • Affinity for fluid mechanics and numerical simulation is necessary.
  • Independent, result-oriented, and analytical behavior with strong problem-solving skills is expected.
  • A good command of written and spoken English is required.
