Professor Hongjie Dai's research group at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research fellows and graduate students to join our team in the Department of Chemistry. Our research focuses on the development of novel materials and nanoscale systems for renewable energy, bioengineering, and nanomedicine.

Research Areas

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas:

  • Nanomaterials Research
    • Design and synthesis of novel nanomaterials with unique physical, chemical, and catalytic properties
    • Advanced spectroscopy and microscopy characterization using state-of-the-art analytical tools
  • New Materials for Renewable Energy Research
    • Electrocatalysis for water splitting and CO2 reduction
    • Development of new materials for rechargeable batteries, including Li/Cl2 and Na/Cl2 batteries
    • Design of non-flammable electrolytes for batteries
  • Nanomedicine and Bioengineering Research
    • Organic synthesis of new dye molecules for fluorescence imaging in the NIR-II/SWIR window
    • Development of nanoparticles/nanocrystals for NIR-II/SWIR emission
    • Design of genetically engineered NIR emitting fluorescent proteins
    • Development of new optical imaging techniques integrating 1-, 2-, and 3-photon detections
